Social Map and Challenges of Young Single Mothers in Huye District

As part of WP2 and following the project design thinking methodology, CONSUFE, in consortium with Rwanda project partners namely Empower Rwanda (ER), Rwanda TVET Board (RTB), Msgr Mubiligi TSS, and Edified Generation Rwanda (EGR), successfully concluded the project activity on the Social Map and Challenges of Young Single Mothers (YSMs) in Huye District under the EU-funded project Preparing TVET Schools to Reintegrate Young Single Mothers into Education.

The activity brought together diverse stakeholders including family members, friends, neighbours, teachers, social workers, mentors, religious leaders, community representatives, and development partners to collaboratively reflect on the realities faced by young single mothers and map the existing support systems surrounding them.In addition to the initially planned stakeholders, Huye District leadership also participated in the discussions, demonstrating strong local commitment toward supporting the reintegration and empowerment of young single mothers through education and TVET opportunities.

Through participatory discussions and mapping exercises, participants identified key challenges, barriers, support structures, and opportunities to strengthen educational reintegration, psychosocial support, economic empowerment, and community inclusion for young single mothers. The activity generated valuable community-driven insights that will contribute to the development of tailored interventions and inclusive approaches within the project.
